The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) Katsina State chapter, has Felicitated with Muslims on the occasion of the New Islamic Year 1446 After Hijra.

This is contained in a statement signed by the State AFAN Chairman, Alhaji Ya'u Umar Gwajo-gwajo, and made available to newsmen in Katsina.

Gwajo-gwajo commended the state Governor, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, for declaring public holiday on the occasion which reflects the importance he attaches to the day and his concern for the wellbeing of workers.

He urged civil servants, private sector employees and other people of the state to use the occasion to pray for security and sustained peace in Katsina State and the country at large.

He also commended the state government for the early procurement and distribution of fertilizers at a subsidized rate which would enable farmers apply it on their farmers at the beginning of the planting season.

He therefore appealed to the farmers not to sell the fertilizers but use them to enhance food production which will reduce the high cost of food items currently witnessed in the country.

The AFAN Chairman also lauded the efforts of the state government for employing 722 extension agents to train farmers on best practice in modern agriculture in order to improve their yields.

Gwajo-gwajo however appealed to farmers and other people of the state to continue to pray for more regular rainfall considering the scarcity of rainfall in the middle of the rainy season which could affect crop cultivation and harvest.
